Kosovo Consequences

The inevitable has begun, the consequences of Kosovo's declaration of independence has begun to materialize. For starters, the Cyprus leaders are going to meet next week to discuss the islands status as a whole. This may not be a direct result of the Kosovo conflict, because this meeting was foreseen long before hand, but the declaration of Kosovo's independence will surely be a hot topic.

A dangerous group of nationalists in Serbia is also gaining momentum. Obraz, a Serbian word for Icon, is a nationalist group that is gaining members on a daily basis. They pledge to unify the Serbian lands. These extremists may be a thorn in the UN's side, and are already speaking of terrorist acts.

Most importantly, 3 Breakaways States are now looking to Russia to aide them in their declaration of independence. Abkhazia and South Ossetia, both of Georgian decent, are asking Russia for assistance. Georgia, of course, is greatly apposed to this, but the Kosovo situation is definitely helping these breakaway regions form an argument. Transdniester, of Moldovan decent, is asking for the same. Transdniester has long been backed by Russia, and has fought a long war with Moldova in order to gain independence.

All 3 of these breakaway regions now have a strong argument in favor of Independence. If the USA and the UN accept Kosovo, why not accept them? They feel that they are far more entitled to independence considering their far greater cultural difference from their parent state. Most interestingly, none of these articles can be found in western media. Why is that?
